City: Temple Terrace Taxes Not Going Up

Setting the tentative millage rate means taxes could go down, but they won't go up.

The Temple Terrace City Council has approved a 6.43 tentative millage rate for fiscal year 2013-14.

It’s the same rate that residents are paying this year. Homeowners pay 6.43 mills per $1,000 of taxable value, so a homeowner whose house is worth $100,000, in theory, pays $643 in taxes.

Now that the tentative rate is set, council members can choose to decrease the final rate, but they can’t choose to increase it.

Although Temple Terrace residents would pay no more in taxes next year than they are paying this year if the council approves 6.43 mills as the final rate, the city would receive more revenue next year because its tax base has increased, City Manager Gerald Seeber said.

“It will provide about $184,000 additional dollars to city’s general fund in fiscal (year) ’14,” he said.

The council will seek citizen input at two public hearings before the final rate is approved.
