Council Expected to Review Redevelopment Burger King Plans

Have something to say about Burger King's plans to relocate within the downtown redevelopment area? You'll have your chance at the Tuesday evening meeting.

Want to tell the Temple Terrace City Council what you think about Burger King’s plan to relocate in the downtown redevelopment area or its plan for the back of the building and a dumpster to face 56th Street?

You’re invited to the council’s meeting Tuesday, Aug. 20, during which council members will have a public hearing on the measure.

Plans call for the Burger King at 101 Bullard Parkway to move to 8755 N. 56th St. in front of the Sweetbay plaza.

The 3,104-square-foot freestanding restaurant would be constructed at the northeast corner of 56th Street and Chicago Avenue. It would have a wrap-around drive-through, and its main entrances would face Sweetbay.

The back of the restaurant, including a dumpster, would face 56th Street. The owners would integrate the dumpster with the building, and they would screen it from 56th Street.

A previous story on Temple Terrace Patch about the plans got readers talking for and against the position of the building. Some said having the front of Burger King facing the interior of the redevelopment area was important. Others said they wouldn’t support the back of a building facing 56th Street even if it was properly screened.

Once the council hears what the public has to say about the plans Tuesday, it could give initial approval to Burger King. The council would then be required to have another public hearing at a later date before giving final approval.

The Aug. 20 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. It will be televised live on Verizon Channel 39 and Bright House Channel 950 and rebroadcast on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m.
