Council Approves 6.43 Tentative Millage Rate

Public hearings on the budget are scheduled for Sept. 4 and 18.

The Temple Terrace City Council approved a tentative millage rate of at its meeting Tuesday.

The tentative rate represents a 0.28 mill increase over the .

Under the tentative rate, a homeowner whose house is worth $100,000 would pay $643 in taxes.

At Tuesday's meeting, the council also:

  • set the public hearings for the fiscal year 2012-13 budget for Sept. 4 and 18 at 6 p.m. at City Hall;
  • discussed an alternative to the downtown redevelopment project with regard to the residential portion on the site;
  • considered raising local business taxes by 5 percent and decided to talk about the issue further at a future meeting;
  • awarded a contract to mill and resurface portions of Temple Heights Road and 53rd Street to Tampa Pavement Constructors for $67,453.80;
  • approved an agreement with Hillsborough County for boat registration fee revenue in the approximate amount of $60,000 for the next fiscal year;
  • awarded a contract to buy quicklime to Carmeuse Lime & Stone for $54,730;
  • authorized the purchase of yard waste disposal services from Consolidated Resource Recovery for no more than $75,000;
  • awarded a five-year contract for Parks and Recreation management software for $35,000 and $7,500 for annual maintenance charges for two-five years; and
  • approved a one-year library services agreement with Plant City and Hillsborough County.

The meeting will be rebroadcast on Verizon Channel 39 and Bright House Channel 950 on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m.
