The lower back supports the upper body. As such, poor posture, injuries, wear and tear, and the overuse of muscles, ligaments and joints can strain the three natural curves of the spine, causing a variety of painful back problems. Therefore, excessive twerking and repetitive improper technique can result in a muscle being overstretched or being torn. Muscle pulls or strains produce pain, spasm and stiffness.
Twerking involves shaking the hips up and down in a vigorous bouncing motion, and a low, squatting stance. Therefore, excessive movement takes place at the lower lumbar spine. And through its spirited repetitive motion, twerking may strain the vertebra, weaken the ligament, wear the disc, or pinch the nerve. You should also keep in mind that repetitive movements often lead to structural imbalance overtime. This causes discomfort, which manifests as pain.

The differential diagnosis of low back painmuscle overuse such as energetic dancing usually falls into four categories:
Discogenic low back pain: the most common type of chronic lower back pain, dicogenic back pain is due to the degeneration, or the wearing out of the lumber intervertebral discs. Activities that increase the pressure within the intervertebral disc like sitting, bending forward, coughing and sneezing heighten the pain.
Spondylolysis: usually affecting the fifth lumbar vertebra or, less frequently, the fourth lumbar vertebra, and the most common in adolescents, spondylolysis is classified as either a bone stress reaction or a stress fracture of the lower back. Spondylolysis usually stretches pain across the lower back and may feel like a muscle strain. It also can stiffen the back or tighten the hamstring muscles, which results in posture and gait changes.
Vertebral body fracture: usually associated with trauma and possible spinal cord damage, vertebrae eventually causes a collapse of the vertebral body. Forceful pressure that exceeds the threshold that the vertebrae can handle causes the fracture and eventual collapse.
Low Back Pain Treatment
Chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, yoga etc help with low back pain. However, research shows that chiropractic care relieves low back pain more effectively and its benefits last longer than other low back pain treatments. A chiropractor simply applies needed pressure to realign the vertebrae, improve mobility and relieve pain and stiffness.
