After unsuccessfully trying to beautify the roundabout, the city has asked the green thumbs of the Temple Terrace Garden Club to see what they can do.
If you’ve driven in the area of the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club or Florida College this month, you might have noticed the roundabout at Inverness, Woodmont and Glen Arven avenues taking on a new look. That’s because members of the Temple Terrace Garden Club have adopted the patch of land and are planting a garden there. “The City of Temple Terrace, they’ve tried and tried to plant this area, and they can’t get anything to survive,” said Patty Cartwright, chairwoman of the project. “So, they have contacted the Garden Club to get involved.” The club started working in the roundabout on May 2, and members are creating four planting zones. The zones are divided by the four roadways that lead into the roundabout and will blend together. …

Reserve Officer Ken Stanton is also a licensed trapper.
Temple Terrace Police Officer Marcus Hildebrand and Reserve Officer Ken Stanton were returning to the city from an auction facility on U.S. 301 Wednesday morning when they got an unusual call. Temple Terrace Public Works employees had found a nearly 6-foot alligator under a car on Terrace Ridge Drive. Lucky for nearby residents, Stanton is a licensed nuisance alligator trapper with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in addition to his police duties. Because of his expertise, he and Hildebrand took the call. Stanton captured the gator and released it at another location. He said Temple Terrace residents might see gators out and about this time of year because it’s mating season. He encouraged people not to feed them…

The Temple Terrace Community Gardens is opening its third plot at Greco Middle School Saturday, and Temple Terrace residents are invited to stop by.
Temple Terrace Community Gardens volunteers have been hard at work, planting civic seeds and harvesting unity within the city. Their first garden plot is at Riverhills Elementary School, and their second is at Riverhills Park. On Saturday, they’ll continue growing community when they open their third plot at Greco Middle School. “We’re starting with a small herb garden on Saturday and will, step by step, be adding infrastructure so that in the fall we can be ready for a full planting season,” said Elizabeth Leib, president of the group. Gardeners hope that once plants start growing, so will interest from teachers, students and parents. “The community garden is intended as a support for teachers—not another responsibility,” Leib said. “As …

Temple Terrace, which won last year’s title, will be hosting this year’s competition March 22.
Last year, the City of Temple Terrace won the title of “Best Tasting Drinking Water.” Now, it’s gearing up to host this year’s contest. The battle will take place March 22, 10:30 a.m., at the Family Recreation Complex, according to a city press release.
