Some are for it; others are against it. Where do you stand?
Since the story “Bat Tower to Rise in Riverhills Park” was posted on Temple Terrace Patch April 19, many readers have voiced their opinions on the structure. And comments haven’t just been allocated to that particular story. Conversation on the article “Home Across From Riverhills Park is Most Expensive for Sale in Temple Terrace” also turned to the bat tower. The Temple Terrace City Council gave its approval April 2 for the tower to be built at Riverhills Park in the grassy area on the bank of the Hillsborough River, just west of the boat ramp. Some commenters, such as Jennifer Moriarty, are in favor of the tower, which is scheduled to be built by October 2014. “Temple Terrace needs pesticide free mosquito control and the bat tower will …

The Temple Terrace City Council has green lighted a location next to the Hillsborough River. The completion date for the project is October 2014.
The Temple Terrace Bat Tower, which was built in 1924 and was burned down by arsonists in 1979, will be reconstructed in a new location. The City Council has given its approval for the new tower to be built at Riverhills Park in the grassy area on the bank of the Hillsborough River, just west of the boat ramp. “The construction process will begin as soon as we have the signed funding agreement.” wrote Tim Lancaster, president of the Temple Terrace Preservation Society and member of the Bat Tower Committee, in an email. The Preservation Society has raised about $20,000 of the $40,000 needed to construct the tower, Lancaster said. It’s also getting money from Hillsborough County’s Preservation Challenge Grant program. In December, …

The ongoing project enables residents to help keep the city beautified.
Living up to Temple Terrace’s Tree City USA designation isn’t easy. The program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, has some pretty strict standards to follow. To make sure the city keeps its good standing, the Temple Terrace Preservation Society lends a hand with its Trees for Preservation project. The adopt-a-tree program enables residents to sponsor trees for planting along the city’s roads, in its parks and along the golf course. Trees purchased through the program are also used to replace those lost to disease or age. “The majestic oaks and other varieties of trees that canopy much of Temple Terrace are a natural source of beauty and pride for the City,” explained society member Tim Lancaster in an email. “Part of the Tree City …
