The Temple Terrace Police Department is encouraging residents to buckle up.
As motorists take to the roads this Memorial Day weekend, the Temple Terrace Police Department is urging everyone to buckle their seat belts. Since May 20, law enforcement officials have been participating in the national 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign, which runs until June 2 and aims to crack down on motorists who don’t wear their seat belt. “As we kick off the busy summer driving season, it’s important that everyone buckles up every time they go out, both day and night—no excuses,” said TTPD Capt. On Tuesday, Mayor Frank Chillura proclaimed May 12-18, 2013 National Police Week in Temple Terrace. Temple Terrace Police Chief Ken Albano accepted the proclamation. National Police Week has been celebrated across the country since 1962, when President John F Kennedy signed a proclamation that desgnated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week the date falls in as Police Week. The Temple Terrace Police Department is hosting a multiagency Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 1, at 50th Street, north of Fowler Avenue. The checkpoint will begin at 1 a.m., and additional units will be conducting a saturation patrol in the area between midnight and 4 a.m., according to a press release from the City of Temple Terrace. When Temple Terrace Police were called to the Ramada Inn to investigate an attempted robbery, they allegedly found something more sinister. Police responded to the hotel at 11714 Morris Bridge Road on March 31 at 11:46 a.m., and found that no robbery had taken place, according to a media release. They did discover, however, that prostitution had been happening at the location. They found a girl younger than 18, who had been “procured for the purpose of prostitution and was present at the location when police arrived.” Detectives searched for Alysia Nicole Algere, 26, of 923 Lotus Ave., Apt. A, Tampa. She had fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival, the release states. Algere was arrested at her home Monday, April 1, and charged with …

The Tampa man is in the hospital following a Monday morning accident.
A Tampa motorcyclist was injured in a crash Monday morning, April 1, at the intersection of 56th Street and Park Ridge Avenue. Benjamin Frederick Lankford, 26, of 14621 Grenadine Drive, Apt. 1, Tampa was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition following the crash, which occurred at 8:48 a.m., said Temple Terrace Police in a media release. “Witnesses said Lankford was traveling northbound on 56th Street, weaving in and out of traffic,” according to the release. The man lost control of his bike and then hit a motorist, according to police.
A Zephyrhills motorcyclist died in a crash just south of the intersection at Fowler Avenue and 56th Street Tuesday. Daniel Ray Baker, 43, of 41520 Merrick Road was traveling southbound on 56th Street at around 6:15 a.m., Temple Terrace Police said in a media release.
