Woodmont Charter School Receives $250,000 Grant

Walton Family Foundation expands education choices to low-income students.

Woodmont Charter School has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation, an organization that invests in charter schools to raise student achievement primarily in low-income communities. In order to receive the grant, the recipient must show a record or plan of success and have at least half of its student body qualify for free or reduced lunch. “The Walton Family Foundation’s dedication to ensuring high quality choices among those who are less fortunate should be highly commended,” said Kathleen Stow, principal of Woodmont Charter School, in a press release. “We will use this money to help put textbooks into the hands of low-income students and will be able to hire tutors to help them on their road to success.” …

Garden Club Offers Grant Money To Teachers

Temple Terrace teachers have until July 1 to take advantage of the “Planting Seeds Through Education” grant program.

Temple Terrace Garden Club (TTGC) is offering grants to local teachers for the third year. Planting Seeds Through Education grants are available to Temple Terrace public school teachers. Applications were distributed to Greco Middle, Lewis Elementary, Riverhills Elementary and Temple Terrace Elementary schools this spring. Completed applications are due July 1. Grants will be awarded in September. Teachers in any of the four schools may apply for the grants annually. Project goals should focus on enhancement and development of an appreciation for nature; the growing of plants and trees; the protection of our environment through the conservation of our natural resources (air, soil and minerals), forests, waters and wildlife.
