Juniors Treat Women to 'Night Out'

Women and a few men visited the Lightfoot Recreation Center, which was filled with vendors selling goodies Monday night for the annual Junior Woman's Club Holiday Open House.

Shannon Gironas, of Temple Terrace, looked over all the paperweights the GFWC Temple Terrace Junior Woman's Club was selling at their annual Holiday Open House—Girls Night Out. Like the stepping stones that the club has been spreading around Temple Terrace, the paperweights were made out of pieces of tile from the old Publix mural, which was demolished in February in the downtown redevelopment area. "These are really from Publix, right?" Gironas asked club member Irene Bosek, who was manning the table. Gironas ended up buying two star-shaped paperweights. "I spent all my life as a child in that store," she said. Gironas was one of numerous women—and a few men—who slowly milled around the Lightfoot Recreation Center Monday evening to shop …

Stepping Stones to be Placed in Woodmont Park

The GFWC Temple Terrace Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club presented the Woodmont Clubhouse Association with stones made from the old Publix mural in the downtown redevelopment area.

The GFWC Temple Terrace Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club continue to preserve the city’s history one step at a time. The next place you can expect to see their colorful mosaic stepping stones is Woodmont Park. Representatives from the clubs presented some of the stones to Al Latina, a member of the Woodmont Clubhouse Association. This is the third location where the stones will be placed. The clubs have also donated stones to the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex and the Temple Terrace Community Garden. They gave one to former Temple Terrace Police Officer Tracy Mishler, who retired earlier this year. Each stone is made from colorful pieces of tile from the old Publix mural in the downtown redevelopment area. The mural and other…

Mosaic Stepping Stones Donated to Community Garden

The GFWC Temple Terrace Woman's Club and Junior Woman's Club donated stones that members made out of the old Publix mural tiles to the Temple Terrace Community Garden Wednesday.

Wednesday evening marked a special moment for the Temple Terrace Community Garden. Not only had gardeners rented out all of the individual spaces in the first quadrant of their new plot, they also received five mosaic stepping stones from the GFWC Temple Terrace Woman's Club and Junior Woman's Club. The stones are made out of tiles from the old Publix mural in the downtown redevelopment area. The clubs saved some of the pieces of tile from the mural before it was demolished in February. Members of both clubs have been creating the stepping stones since August. In September, the clubs presented the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex with six stones, which now adorn the facility's front landscaping. Earlier this month, members gave one…
