Christmas Town Unveiled at Busch Gardens

The holiday-themed celebration will begin Nov. 30.

It was 85 degrees Tuesday morning, but it felt much cooler at Busch Gardens as Christmas music played over the speakers and iced coffee with red and green sprinkles was served to guests. “It’s hard to transform a hot, muggy July day into Christmas, but we did our best this morning,” said Jim Dean, park president. On Tuesday, Busch Gardens announced its new event, Christmas Town, which promises to fill your senses with seasonal sights, sounds and flavors every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, Nov. 30-Dec. 23. Busch Gardens Elephants Prepare for RNC

There are 100 days left until the Republican National Convention.

From Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: Today (May 19) marks 100 days before the Republican National Convention, and elephants at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay celebrated their status as a political party symbol earlier this week. The park’s elephant team added some colorful enrichment to the elephants’ day by making “elephant footprints” with non-toxic children’s poster paint at the new Elephant Interaction Wall. The unique prints will be framed and shared with special guests and members of the media who visit Busch Gardens during the RNC. As one of the largest zoos in North America, Busch Gardens offers its more than 2,000 animals enrichment that is different, unusual and challenging. Busch Gardens to Eliminate Plastic Bag Use Within Park

The goal is to show the park’s commitment to the environment.

From Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and SeaWorld Parks: Paper or plastic? Soon paper will be the only choice at the 10 theme parks of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, including Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The company plans to eliminate plastic shopping bags within the next year. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment will be the largest theme park operator to make this commitment. Park gift shops will offer paper bags made from 100 percent recycled paper or guests can choose to purchase reusable bags. “This is a significant change for our company, one we hope will provide a model for our industry overall,” said Jim Atchison, president and chief executive officer of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “Eliminating plastic bags is an important statement about our …

Busch Gardens Welcomes Mongoose Lemur Twins

It’s a rare pair, according to the park.

From Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: Earlier this month, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay witnessed an uncommon event: the birth of mongoose lemur twins. On April 6, the two babies were born to 17-year-old mother Rosalita and 18-year-old father Guillermo. Rosalita’s first baby—a male named Duggan—was also born at Busch Gardens and moved to another zoo for breeding. Mongoose lemurs are classified as a “vulnerable” species, and Busch Gardens takes part in Species Survival Plans (SSP) initiated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to cooperatively manage breeding programs for threatened or endangered species in accredited institutions.  Busch Gardens zoo staff aren’t yet sure if the new babies are male or female. All baby mongoose lemurs look the …

Cheetah-Puppy Duo Celebrate First Anniversary Together

The Busch Gardens BFFs can be seen daily by park visitors.

From Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is celebrating a milestone anniversary for a very special relationship. April 16 marked the one-year anniversary of the first time park guests got to see an 8-week-old male cheetah cub and a 16-week-old female yellow Labrador puppy start to strike up a friendship that the park’s animal experts expect to last a lifetime. The pair—later named Kasi and Mtani by park fans via a Facebook poll—spent only supervised play times together at first. Now, a year later, they live together full time at the park’s Cheetah Run habitat and even travel together to schools, events and television studios, helping the park’s education team teach the public about the plight of cheetahs in the wild and the …
