Temple Terrace Police Det. Christopher Migliore died recently due to illness.
The Temple Terrace Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Det. Christopher Migliore, 31, was laid to rest March 4 following complications from Cushing’s Syndrome, according to Examiner.com. A former officer of the year, Migliore began his career on the University of South Florida Police Department before joining the Temple Terrace force. Temple Terrace communications officer Chad Bennett, a longtime friend of Migliore, issued the End of Watch call following the funeral services, Examiner.com reported. “Temple Terrace Police calling 707. 707? 707? Schine, a civic leader credited with saving Woodmont Clubhouse in Temple Terrace, died Sunday.
Jerry Schine will remember his late wife as a devoted and loving mother, a friend to many, a selfless volunteer and a civic leader. “When she saw things that needed to be done, she got them done,” Jerry said. Marjorie “Margie” Schine died Sunday at the age of 89. Margie was born on Nov. 6, 1923, as a fourth-generation Tampa native. She married Jerry in 1955 and they moved to Temple Terrace the next year. They had a son and named him Michael. Margie was a go-getter, but she tackled obstacles without being pushy. “In the 1941 (Plant) High School Annual, she was voted sweetest and friendliest,” Jerry said. “And that she was.” In 1958, Margie was a charter member of the GFWC Temple Terrace Junior Woman’s Club and was its president one year …

Former Hillsborough County Administrator Fred Karl died March 7.
Hillsborough County is mourning the loss of one its longstanding leaders today, March 7. Fred Karl, a former county administrator, county attorney, state legislator and Florida Supreme Court justice, was 88. A Daytona native, Karl served as an Army tank commander in World War II and was present at the Battle of the Bulge, according to The Tampa Tribune. His public service career continued long after the war was over. The Stetson Law graduate served in the Florida House from 1956-64 when he attempted a bid for the governor’s office. After that, he ran for the Florida Senate in 1968 and served until 1971, according to web sources. Karl then sat on the Florida Supreme Court from 1977 until 1978 when he opted to go back into private practice. …

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that her father, Joseph C. Bondi Jr., died Tuesday. He was 76 years old.
Update (Jan. 9, 4 p.m.): “A Celebration of Life” funeral service for former Temple Terrace Mayor Joseph C. Bondi Jr. will take place Jan. 20 at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., according to a press release from the City of Temple Terrace. Mayor Frank Chillura said he “joins the entire Temple Terrace community in expressing his deepest condolences and highest respect for former Mayor Bondi,” the release states. Bondi died peacefully on Jan. 8 at Melech Hospice House in Temple Terrace after a six-month battle with leukemia, family members said in the release. He was 76. Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf had retired to Tampa, Fla., after a final military assignment leading U.S. Central Command.
Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, 78, passed away today in Tampa, according to media reports. Schwarzkopf was best known to the American people for his leadership in removing Saddam Hussein and his forces from Kuwait in 1991. Schwarzkopf had successfully led an international coalition of U.S. allies to drive out Iraqi troops. "Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation," former President George H.W. Bush said in a written statement, according to ABC News. Schwarzkopf led what came to be known as Operation Desert Storm under President Bush. A memorial service for former congressman Sam Gibbons will be held at Tampa's Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Oct. 20, according to Tampabay.com. Gibbons, an iconic Bay Area figure and politician who was instrumental in the creation of the University of South Florida died on Oct. 10, 2012. The World War II veteran, who spent more than 50 years as a lawmaker, was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital. Gibbons, 92, lived through some of the most significant events in Bay Area and U.S. history. He served decades in the Legislature and Congress, developing a reputation as an outspoken lawmaker.

The wife of the late Art Pepin died in her Temple Terrace home.
Polly Virginia Pepin, 87, of Temple Terrace, passed away peacefully at her home Aug. 16 surrounded by her loving family and friends, according to an obituary on the JGR Funeral Home website. My condolences to Jerry and all the family from Bonnie Wagner. When Margie was president of TTJWC in 1958 I was one of her officers. As a memento she gave me a small china angel bell which says, "God Protect You." It has been sitting on the center of my range since that time.
