GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 17-19

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Temple Terrace area.

Art en Blanc

The Temple Terrace Arts Council will host Art en Blanc, an dinner and entertainment at Woodmont Park, 415 Woodmont Ave., Temple Terrace, Friday, May 17 from 7 to 11 p.m. Attendees bring their own centerpiece and food (pre-paid dinners are available from Antonio’s Pasta Grill, Rubens and the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club) and beverages. All the table decorations are to be in white and attendees should also dress in white.

Silent Auction and Talent Show

First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace, 10002 56th St. N., Temple Terrace, will host a silent auction, talent show and hors d'oeuvres to benefit the youth leadership camp. Items for auction include a Smokey Mountain cabin for a week and one night at a bed and breakfast in the last commissioned working lighthouse in New York.

Booth at Beef's

Throughout the weekend, the Tampa Bay Tech Art Academy will host a decorated booth at Beef O' Brady's, 9311 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace. Residents are invited to enjoy a meal in the booth and Beef's will donate 15 percent of the check to the school.

'Suessical Jr.' on Stage

The Terrace Community Middle School will present "Seussical Jr." Saturday, May 18 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Brooks-DeBartolo Auditorium, 11602 N. 15th St., Tampa. The productions features more than 30 students in the cast and crew.

Auditions for 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Masque Theatre will hold auditions for its summer musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Omar K. Lightfoot Recreation Center, 10901 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace. The auditions are open for kids age 4 to 9.

Juniors Food Drive

The GFWC Temple Terrace Junior Woman’s Club is hosting its first food drive to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on May 18. The Juniors are requesting that all donated food be placed in bags by your mailbox by 10 a.m Saturday, May 18 for pickup by club members. In addition, donations can be dropped off at the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th St. in Temple Terrace.

Free Yoga in the Park

Residents can enjoy a free yoga class at Riverhills Park, 329 S. Riverhills Dr., Temple Terrace, Sunday, April 21 at 5 p.m. Bring a mat, towel and water.

Karaoke

Shamrock's Ale House, 7805 Temple Terrace Highway, Temple Terrace, hosts karaoke every Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Flea Market

American Legion Post 334, 929 E. 139th Ave., Tampa, hosts a flea market every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
