USF’s Skip Holtz Out

The beleaguered coach is on his way out after three lackluster seasons. We'd like to hear your thoughts on the decision Temple Terrace.

University of South Florida football fans wanted change and it looks like they’re going to get it.

Rather than a shift in strategy, however, they’re going to see a change in the Bulls’ head office. Coach Skip Holtz is out of a job after yesterday’s season finale, which ended with a 27-3 loss to Pittsburg, TBO.com is reporting.

Holtz had been with the Bulls for three seasons, none of which produced winning performances.

Earlier this week Holtz’s record with the Bulls had The Tampa Tribune speculating that change was in the air at USF. With an overall 16-21 record in Holtz’s three years at USF, it was clear something had to give.

Fans, it was reasoned, wanted to see an immediate change either on the sidelines or the scoreboard. Today’s announcement means that USF officials have decided to make the change on the sidelines in hopes of a scoreboard improvement soon.

While some wanted to see Holtz go, he was a popular figure in the area. Temple Terrace even recognized Holtz with a day in his honor.

Holtz’s contract had been extended to 2017. Now USF will likely have to pay a $2.5 million buyout in order to seek out a new coach.

What do you think Temple Terrace? Is this the right move for USF or should Holtz been given another chance? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

He should have been fired on the plane flight back from the Ball State loss. Fired AD Woodard next. USF sports teams are an embarrassment.

Yahooo!!! Finally the clouds have cleared and the true vision can be seen. Take the time to weed out the bad and bring in someone that will make us proud with a winning season. It has been done before and can be done again with the correct leaders.

@Scott: USF sports teams are an embarrassment? Forgot the men's b-ball team winning two games in the tourney last year? Stay classy Scott.

The real problem at USF is Woodard. Hotz's Bulls were on a skid for the last half of the 2011 season and Woodard offered a contract extension. An extension that now, six months later, will cost USF another 1.5 million.

And one other thing, Woodard: Phil Fulmer Great coach, wife is from the Bay area. I'd be more than happy to help you with this search. Call me.

"USF will likely have to pay a $2.5 million buyout in order to seek out a new coach" yet their employees have yet to see a raise in over 5 years??? Priorities seem a little skewed.
