June 19, 2012– Tampa, FL) –USA’s Skateplex will be continuing to encourage families to get out of the house and participate in a fun activity with tremendous fitness benefits yet again this summer. This is part of an on-going effort by USA’s Skateplex to combat childhood obesity. A FREE admission* skate session will be offered from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday July 5th, 2012.
According to the Roller Skating Association International:
- Roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body's muscles, especially the heart.
- Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits-caloric consumption, reduction of body fat and leg strength development.
- Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.
- The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.
This is the first year that USA’s Skateplex will be offering this health conscious session. In an economy that still leaves families struggling for affordable entertainment venues, USA’s Skateplex leads the pack in offering affordable family fun. “USA’s Skateplex is so excited to help be a part of a healthier nation and provide an affordable activity for families this summer instead of just hoping they stay entertained with televisions, movies, and video games.”, said Erin Lynn, Event Coordinator. “This summer we are encouraging families to get out and play together and skating is a healthy, fun, safe, family activity that will encourage activity and help fight childhood obesity”
*Skate Rental fee is $2.50 per person.
