Boss Headed to Redskins Mini-Camp

The Temple Terrace native and Berkeley Prep grad will make his first trip to a professional football mini-camp this weekend.

It was early Monday morning when Colin Boss received a call from the Washington Redskins inviting him to their rookie mini-camp.

“I’m ecstatic,” Boss said of the opportunity. “I hope to work up to the next mini-camp, the real training camp, and eventually a roster spot.”

The mini-camp isn’t a Redskins contract offer, but it’s Boss’ first shot at going pro.

Boss, a Temple Terrace native and Berkeley Prep grad, is entering the mini-camp after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University where he played on the .

He made the 2011 Rimington Trophy watchlist and was a first team All-Sunbelt pick last year. He missed getting invited to the 2012 NFL Combine, which could have diminished his hopes for getting drafted or even making the National Football League.

“I was kind of expecting to get invited (to the Combine), but we had a pro day at MTSU that went well,” Boss said.

That pro day garnered interest from the Arizona Cardinals. Then, the call from the Redskins came in.

“My agent called me that morning. Said they might be calling me,” Boss explained. “It was early, and I was kind of out of it, so when they called, it was a surprise.”

Now, he’s getting ready to make the trip to the mini-camp, which runs today (May 3) through Sunday.

“That’s what your dream is—to get up there,” Boss said.

“It's hard to give up on football,” he added. “I want to play as long as I can until my body gives out.”
