King Dance Team Offers Program to Kids

The Lionettes will teach a routine to the youngsters, who will perform with them on the football field before the Sept. 23 game.

If your kids have ever watched the half-time show during a high school football game and wanted to be a part of it, now is their chance.

The Lionettes Dance Team will be hosting a Junior Lionettes Dance Clinic and Workshop for first- through eighth-graders, beginning Sept. 17.

Girls will learn dance moves from the award-winning Lionettes, and then perform them with the Lionettes and the King Marching Lions on the field during the pregame show Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. No dance experience is required, said Kim Hall, a Lionette parent.

“The girls will be divided into age groups and will learn a dance routine that corresponds to their ability,” Hall said.

The evening will also feature "Band Night" participants, local middle school students who will play and march on the field with the King High Marching Lions.

The annual dance workshop, which has been offered for more than 10 years, is a fund-raiser for the Lionettes. The cost to participate is $25, and all participants will receive a Junior Lionettes T-shirt, certificate and game admission for one parent or guardian.

Registration for the program will take place Sept. 17 from 1-4 p.m., at the King High gym. Parents should enter the back parking log from Sligh Avenue and park near the gym, Hall said. Kids should wear gym clothes and sneakers that day and bring a water bottle. They will be given a snack.

There will be a rehearsal on Sept. 19 from 4:30–5:30 p.m., and then the girls will perform for their parents, family, friends, and KHS football fans Sept. 23.

Parents can start the registration process early by emailing their child’s name and T-shirt size to to khsjrlionettes@gmail.com. Upon receipt of this information, parents will receive a registration form to complete and bring with them on Sept. 17.
