How You Can Get School Lunch Menus on the Go

The Hillsborough County school district has released a free app that lets students see what's on the menu via their smartphones.

This story was reported and written by Associate Regional Editor Sherri Lonon.

The days of needing to consult a paper printout of the Hillsborough County Public Schools' lunch menu before deciding to buy it or bag it are over.

The district just rolled out a free, easy way students and their parents can get the scoop on what’s being dished up on a particular day. Now available via the Apple App Store for iPhones and on Google Play for Android users is the School Lunch by Nutrislice app.

The app provides a lineup of each day’s menu, including descriptions of what’s on the menu and pictures. Nutritional and allergen information is also provided. Hillsborough is one of the first school districts in the country to use the new app.

MaryKate Harrison, the school district’s general manager of student nutrition services, said in an email to media that the app is hoped to make it easier for the district to connect with families.
