Florida College Begins Its 66th Year

The school will have opening ceremonies on Sunday.

From Florida College:

It’s back-to-school time—and next week, Temple Terrace will be home to nearly 500 fresh-faced residents as opens its doors once again.

This academic year marks the 66th anniversary of Florida College and, true to tradition, the Opening Ceremonies event Sunday will have all the pomp and circumstance of the last several decades.

Most notably, Temple Terrace Mayor Joe Affronti will be present to address the students and welcome them to the community. Since the community of Temple Terrace has essentially “grown up” around Florida College, there has always been an important partnership between the school and the city—and Affronti will encourage the students (both new and returning) to become valuable citizens in their new community.

And, while it will all be new to the freshman, long-time staff and faculty always appreciate the solemn observance of tradition during Opening Ceremonies—little things like the reading of Psalm 19 or the President’s address on the annual theme (this year, “Second-Mile Service”). And, of course, the faculty will enter Hutchinson Auditorium to the tolling of the Florida College bell, just as they have for decades.
