Who Will Have the ‘Best Tasting Drinking Water’ This Year?

Temple Terrace, which won last year's title, will be hosting this year's competition March 22.

Last year, the City of Temple Terrace won the title of “Best Tasting Drinking Water.” Now, it’s gearing up to host this year’s contest.

The battle will take place March 22, 10:30 a.m., at the Family Recreation Complex, according to a city press release. It’s being organized by the Florida chapter (Region IV) of the American Water Works Association, with support from the Temple Terrace Public Works Department and Leisure Services Department.

“Temple Terrace won first place last year, with judges declaring that Temple Terrace has the best tasting drinking water in the region,” the release states. “As host of this year’s event, Temple Terrace won’t compete.”

Water samples are judged on taste, clarity and aroma, said Steven King, treasurer of the AWWA’s Florida-Region IV section, in the release. Judging is completely subjective, he said, and not based on any scientific data.

The “Best Tasting Drinking Water” champion will receive an engraved plaque, and earn an enduring legacy with the utility’s name emblazoned on Region IV’s revolving trophy, the release states. The winner also will represent the region at the state contest on April 30, 2013 at the Florida Water Resource Conference in Orlando.

This contest is open to the public. There is no admission charge.
