What's Open, What's Closed This Christmas Weekend

Trying to squeeze in a grocery trip or last-minute gift purchase in the next few days? Here's a look at when some of the most popular stores in town will be open this weekend, plus a rundown of what else is open and closed around Hillsborough County this

SHOPPING

Target will be open from 8 a.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday. It will be closed Sunday.

Walmart, which is normally open 24 hours, will close at 8 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Note: Walmart Neighborhood Market stores will close at 6 p.m. Saturday. They will be closed Sunday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

Best Buy will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday. It will be closed Sunday.

Walgreens 24-hour stores will remain open 24 hours throughout the entire weekend. Hours at other non-24-hour Walgreens stores vary; call your local store for information.

CVS 24-hour stores will remain open 24 hours, even on Sunday. Hours at other CVS stores vary; call your local store for information.

Publix will be open until 7 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and reopen Monday.

Sweetbay will be open until 7 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and reopen Monday.

Winn-Dixie will be open until 7 p.m. Saturday and will be open Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

Hillsborough County offices and many facilities will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 26-27 and again on Jan. 2 following New Year’s Day.

TRASH PICKUP

The holidays will not affect the schedule for solid waste collection (including garbage, recyclables and yard waste) in the unincorporated Hillsborough County Service Area and for City of Tampa customers.

MAIL

There will be no U.S. Postal Service delivery on Monday, the day after Christmas, or on Jan. 2, the day after New Year's.

ANIMAL SERVICES

The county shelter will be closed to the public Dec. 24-26. It will reopen Dec. 27 for the remainder of the week, then close for Jan. 1-2.

On days the shelter is closed, there are a limited number of officers who will be on call for animal emergencies only through the main number at 813-744-5660.

FIRE RESCUE

All emergency services will continue without interruption. However, the Fire Rescue Administration, Fire Marshal and Emergency Operations Center offices will be closed Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2. 

INFOLINE

Hillsborough County’s InfoLine, 813-272-5900, also will be closed on the observed holidays.

LIBRARIES

All libraries the in the Tampa-Hillsborough County Library System (not including the Temple Terrace Public Library) will close at 6 p.m. Friday and remain closed through Dec. 27.

They will be open Dec. 28-30 until 6 p.m. and will be closed Jan. 1-2.

The Temple Terrace Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Friday and remain closed Dec. 24-26. It will be open regular hours on Dec. 27 and 29 and will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 28 and 30. It will be closed Jan. 1-2.

PARKS AND RECREATION

These regional parks are open until 3 p.m. Saturday: Alderman’s FordEdward MedardEureka SpringsLettuce LakeLithia Springs,Upper Tampa Bay, and the FlatwoodsMorris Bridge and Trout Creek sections of Wilderness Park. The Upper Tampa Trail also is open until 3 p.m.

These regional parks are closed on Saturday: E.G. SimmonsLake ParkLake Rogers, and the Dead RiverHarney Boat RampJohn B. Sargeant and Veteran’s Memorial sections of Wilderness Park.

The FlatwoodsMorris Bridge and Trout Creek sections of Wilderness Park are open Sunday. All other regional park operations are closed.

All regional parks are open on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

All county recreation centers will be closed Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2. 

SUNSHINE LINE

The Sunshine Line transportation service will not be in operation Dec. 26. On Dec. 27, it will provide only pre-scheduled trips to kidney dialysis centers. Normal service resumes Dec. 28 for the remainder of the week. Service will not be available Jan. 2.

WATER/WASTEWATER

The Public Utilities Department’s customer call center and water/wastewater customer service centers in Northdale and Brandon will be closed Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2. Emergency calls regarding county water and wastewater service may be made to 813-744-5600 or 813-264-3835.

CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS

Offices of the Property AppraiserTax CollectorSupervisor of Elections and Clerk of the Circuit Court will be closed Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2.
