A few days remain for anyone who wants to take part in the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July parade to get in a last-minute application.
Though the deadline was Friday, the chamber will take applications until Wednesday, said Barbara Sparks-McGlinchy, executive director. You can drop applications at the chamber office, 9385 N. 56th St.
About 100 participants are expected to march in this year’s event, Sparks-McGlinchy said.
A Fourth of July would not be a celebration of Independence Day without fireworks and the chamber is still seeking donations for the show that will be the climax of the 38th Annual Temple Terrace Independence Day celebration.
Anyone who donated $500 or more for a sponsorship will have their name emblazoned on a T-shirt. This year Ward-Seaford Attorneys at Law is the event’s Presidential Sponsor with a donation of $2,500. The chamber is still accepting sponsorships, but there may not be time to be included on the shirt, Sparks-McGlinchy said.
Also, the chamber is seeking donors who wish take part in the “Light Up the Sky” effort for a donation of $100. Donors will receive a yard sign that says “I helped Light Up the Sky.”
Sparks-McGlinchy said the chamber has raised close to $20,000 to cover the cost of the parade and fireworks.
The chamber stepped up in 2008 when municipal finances were strained and it appeared money might not have been available to pay for the festivities. Donations raised in the Light Up the Sky effort have paid for the celebration since.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Greco Middle School and should last 90 minutes to two hours, Sparks-McGlinchy said.
“It’s home town but has everything you want in a parade,” she said.
There will be floats, dignitaries and the marching bands from King and Tampa Bay Technical high schools.
At 7 p.m. there will be music and festivities at the first fairway of the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club.
The fireworks will start at 9 p.m. and you can view them from the golf course or a number of vantage points.
“You can see them from most any place in Temple Terrace,” Sparks-McGlinchy said.
