Redevelopment Not on Sept. 18 Agenda—Yet

The city has not received a final proposal from developer Vlass Temple Terrace.

Although Temple Terrace Mayor Joe Affronti and the City Council discussed having a final vote on the residential aspect of the downtown redevelopment project at their Sept. 18 meeting, the measure has not been put on the agenda yet.

The city is waiting on a final revision from Vlass Temple Terrace, the developer of the project, according to Michael Dunn, the city’s public information officer.

“At this point, it’s just a regular Tuesday night council meeting,” he said.

At a workshop Sept. 1, Vlass’ attorney, David Smith, told council members, who were acting as the Temple Terrace Redevelopment Agency, that they need to make a final decision on the project. Smith said that he would submit Vlass’ final revised plan to the city by the end of last week and asked the TTRA to forgo another workshop and vote the plan up or down Sept. 18.

Affronti agreed that the council should come to a final consensus.

“We have to decide one way or another,” he said Sept. 1. “We can’t keep going—it’s been almost a year now.”

But the city has not yet received Vlass’ revised plan from Smith. Although Dunn said the city does expect to receive the proposal at some point, he said the city is not sure it will have time to put the measure on the Sept. 18 meeting agenda.

“At this point, everything’s still in limbo,” he said.

Sounds like the Developer wants to wait until the last minute and ask the Council members to rush a decision on changing the MDA. Carol Dell

"Smith said that he would submit Vlass’ final revised plan to the city by the end of last week" Add it to the list of promises not kept.

This is so clearly an attempt to shove this thing through without citizen input. Does the public have a chance to view the final proposal before the vote? I am so looking forward to some new faces come November.

Carol you are absolutly correct, they have a history of doing this and not giving ample time for review. Lucinda it is up to the council now, they know what the residents want and they know how they need to vote, that being said all we can do is put our faith in the people we put in office. Vlass has tried this bully tactic before vote or we walk and they are still here, although I would have much prefered they walked.

"But the city council has its own terms. The board wants the developer to agree to conditions such as building first-floor units with at least 14-foot ceilings, providing ample on-site parking and creating a marketing plan to promote the complex's ground level as retail space." The Developer needs to agree to the MDA which they signed....agreeing to ground floor retail....appropriate ceiling heigths, parking and marketing. "The city borrowed $20 million to buy the land, Affronti said. It pitched in $4 million more to cover infrastructure costs to develop the property." And we GAVE the property to t he Developer!!!!! Can't we just get it finished ~ Maybe a Put-Put Golf Course. Mike Vlass nor Mark Sneed are not your enemy here. This project should have been up and running more than ten years ago. So lets begin there at finger pointing and blame. "Mr." Vlass nor Sneed were not in the picture then. We need to look at the real offenders, who ever they are. Jusy sayin'
