New Mayor, Council Members Sworn In

Temple Terrace Mayor Frank Chillura and City Council members Grant Rimbey and Eddie Vance are now officially serving the city in their new roles.

The Temple Terrace Council Chambers at City Hall were packed with family and friends of the outgoing and incoming mayor and City Council members Tuesday night.

Outgoing Mayor Joe Affronti handed his seat over to incoming Mayor Frank Chillura, while outgoing council members Ron Govin and Mary Jane Neale (who was not present) relinquished their spots on the dais to incoming Councilmen Grant Rimbey and Eddie Vance.

The new officials were elected in the Nov. 6 general election.

The goodbye was emotional for Affronti and Govin, who thanked the city for their years of services and their families for supporting them.

Affronti was first elected to the City Council in 1998. He was re-elected to the council in 2002, won a bid for mayor in 2004, and was re-elected mayor in 2008. He’s reached his two-term limit.

Govin was elected to the City Council in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. He’s also reached his two-term limit.

Neale was elected to the City Council in 2008 and lost her re-election bid to Rimbey and Vance earlier this month.

City Manager Kim Leinbach used his comment portion of the Tuesday meeting to commend Affronti, Govin and Neale on jobs well done.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts," he said.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi first swore in Rimbey and Vance, and then Chillura. Bondi, daughter of former Temple Terrace Mayor Joseph C. Bondi, Jr., grew up in Temple Terrace and said she has known the new elected officials for years.

Afterward, Chillura presented Pam Bondi with a "Key to the City."
