Council to Meet Early Tuesday as Redevelopment Agency

Mayor Joe Affronti and the City Council will meet as the Temple Terrace Redevelopment Agency at 5 p.m. prior to their regular meeting at 6 p.m.

The Temple Terrace City Council is gathering an hour before its regularly scheduled meeting in order to hear a status report by city staff and Vlass Temple Terrace with regard to the .

According to the meeting agenda, Mayor Joe Affronti and the City Council will convene as the Temple Terrace Redevelopment Agency at 5 p.m. before their regular meeting at 6 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public and will take place at the instead of , the usual City Council meeting location.

It is unclear whether council members will take a vote on the housing element of the project. At a , the council heard the developer’s proposal to build 214 apartments at the site. They voted to continue a public hearing and postpone their vote until March 20. Now, city staff has said the council could continue the hearing again until April 3.

“The best answer I can give you is that there’s a strong chance the public hearing will be continued until April 3,” wrote Mike Dunn, the city’s public information officer, in an email response to Patch asking for clarification on the issue. “If that’s the case, then a final vote on the redevelopment issues likely won’t take place on March 20.”

The city and the developer are working to come to an agreement on the residential aspect of the project. Council members, city officials and residents voiced concerns on Feb. 16, such as residential versus retail on the ground floor, rental versus owner-occupied units, and the amount of parking spaces.

According to a story that appeared in the Tampa Bay Times, residents are anxious to see what happens.

Also during the 6 p.m. City Council meeting, the council is scheduled to:

  • Consider approving the city’s .
  • Take a final vote on in the U.S. 301 Industrial Area at 8801, 8804 and 8811 Maislin Drive, 7601-7603 Industrial Lane, and 8801 Industrial Drive. Additionally, the city would annex the adjacent rights-of-way. The land, including the seven properties and the rights-of-way, totals nearly 35 acres.
  • Take a final vote on a zoning reclassification and the final site plan for at 9780 N. 56th St. The property owner would like to reuse the existing building and a proposed addition for three medical offices and a pharmacy.
