UPDATE: Congressman Dennis Ross to Tour Temple Terrace

Mayor Joe Affronti will show Ross around the city's downtown redevelopment area Oct. 23.

Update: U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross’ vist has been rescheduled to Oct. 22 at 10 a.m.

Original Story:
U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross (District 12) will pay a special visit to Temple Terrace and meet with city officials Oct. 23.

According to a press release from the City of Temple Terrace, Ross will start his tour at City Hall at 10 a.m. where officials will talk about Temple Terrace and issues important to this area. Then, Mayor Joe Affronti will take Ross on a guided tour of Temple Terrace’s downtown redevelopment area around 10:45 a.m.

“I’m excited about it,” Affronti said Tuesday. “We’ve been trying to set up a time for months now.”

Affronti explained that city officials try to take elected representatives around Temple Terrace in order to better familiarize them with the area. The city has had similar tours with U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (District 9); U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (District 11); and former U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, who Ross replaced.

“I think it’s important that they see what we’re doing in Temple Terrace,” Affronti said, explaining a face-to-face meeting is more beneficial than an email or phone call. “This way, they can see it first-hand.”

Ross is originally from Lakeland. District 12 includes Hillsborough, Osceola and Polk counties.

Mayoral candidates Frank Chillura and Cheri Donohue have also been invited to attend the tour.
