City to Honor 'Coach of the Year'

Coaches are invited to a special banquet at Beef 'O' Brady's Monday.

Temple Terrace’s 2012 Coach of the Year will be named during a special awards banquet Monday.

The event will take place at , 7-9 p.m.

Coaches in attendance will eat for free, courtesy of Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, said manager Glen Crain.

This is the second year the James Chambers Coach of the Year award has been presented by the , said Athletics Supervisor Scott Andrews. The award is named for Leisure Services Director James Chambers.

More than two-dozen coaches for such in-house sports as football and basketball were eligible for nomination by players, parents and peers, Andrews said. The nominees were whittled down to 10 finalists, and the finalist with the most votes will be honored Monday night as the Coach of the Year.

The winning coach will earn major bragging rights, Andrews said, and his or her name will be engraved on a trophy.

Special guest Don Dzaigwa, basketball coach at Tampa Catholic High School, will be on hand to speak about sportsmanship and the role of coaches in the Temple Terrace community.
