City Council Expected to Name Arts and Education Center Architect

The Temple Terrace City Council will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Construction of the Arts and Education Center in the downtown redevelopment area is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2012, and the Temple Terrace City Council is expected to vote on a resolution to hire an architect at its meeting Tuesday evening.

According to the meeting agenda, the council will consider an agreement with Toppe Consultants as the city’s representative and planning consultant for the design coordination and interior planning of the Community Arts and Education Center. If approved, the city would pay Toppe $75,075 for this service.

Other resolutions the council is scheduled to consider include:

  • approving agreements between the city and Hillsborough County to pay for the Riverhills Park improvement project, affordable housing rehabilitation assistance, distribution of a state grant, and disbursement of emergency telephone service fee revenue;
  • approving the purchase of 21 laptop computers;
  • approving the purchase of other computer equipment;
  • awarding a contract to upgrade the elevator; and
  • awarding a contract to furnish and install two emergency generators at City Hall.

Also during the meeting the council is expected to:

  • approve the second and final reading of an ordinance rezoning the property at 12200 N. 56th St. from City Commercial Office to City Commercial General;
  • hear the first reading of an ordinance amending the city code to correct an error related to the firefighters’ retirement system after hearing a presentation on the issue;
  • make appointments to the School Support Committee and Hillsborough County Citizens Environmental Advisory Committee; and
  • present a certificate of appreciation to Joyce McKenzie.
