Village Oaks Murder Suspect Surrenders

Gary Brown II is being held at the Hillsborough County jail.

The second suspect in the Sept. 4 murder of Jobree Platt at Village Oaks Apartments has turned himself in.

Gary Brown II surrendered around noon on Thursday at the Orient Road jail in Hillsborough County, the Temple Terrace Police Department said in a press release.

Brown, 29, is being held without bond, according to police. His last known address is 7007 Tidewater Trail, Tampa. He is being charged with first-degree felony murder and two counts of attempted armed robbery.

The first suspect, Edward Lavon Larry, 29, was arrested at 2 a.m. on Oct. 10, according to police. Larry, of Riverview, is charged with second-degree murder and accessory after the fact. He is being held at the Hillsborough County jail on $15,000 bond, according to arrest records.

Platt, 31, of Lutz, had been visiting a relative at the apartment complex, located at 8575 Montravail Circle, police originally said. The two had gone out overnight. As they returned to the complex at about 4:50 a.m., they encountered a shooter in the breezeway near the elevator. After a verbal confrontation ensued, the shooter pulled a handgun and fired, hitting and killing Platt.
