The man tried to pull someone over after asking where he could get drugs.

A Temple Terrace man was arrested Sunday at 1:45 p.m. for attempting to impersonate a police officer.

According to a press release from the Tampa Police Department, Sandy Johnson, 23, of 5602 Seneca Drive, pulled up next to LeTanya F. Stone, 30, of Tampa, at a red light at North 50th Street and East Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

From his 2007 white Chevy Silverado, Johnson asked Stone if she had any cocaine or knew where he could buy some, according to police. Stone said she didn’t and drove away, but she noticed Johnson following her.

After stopping at a stop sign, Johnson maneuvered his truck, blocking Stone’s car, police said. He held up what appeared to be a police badge and yelled, “I’m an officer.”

Stone drove home and notified police, according to the release. Officers found Johnson’s truck parked in the area of the 5000 block of East 30th Avenue, and within 30 minutes also found Johnson. After searching his truck, they found a metal badge that was inscribed with black lettering: “Security-Police.”

Johnson was released from the Hillsborough County jail Monday morning on $2,500 bond, according to arrest records.
