Death Of Temple Terrace Dad Was Homicide, Says Sheriff's Office

Sean Michael Buchanan was found dead in his car behind AMC The Regency 20 May 31. The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office had said his injuries were not consistent with a crash.

 The death of man from Temple Terrace whose body was found behind a Brandon movie theater is now being investigated as a homicide.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the body of Sean Michael Buchanan, 26, was discovered at 1:26 a.m. May 31 behind the shopping center, where he had attended the movies at AMC The Regency 20.

The Sheriff's Office has also released images from a security camera on the night of the death. They are hoping that someone will recognize people from the images and be able to provide some information about the events of that night.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story misidentified the person in the survailence photos. The people in the photos were near the movie theater on the night of the Buchanan's death and the Sheriff's Office would like the public's help to identify people from these images.

The shopping center is across the street from the Westfield Brandon shopping mall. Buchanan lived at 6905 South Riverchase Drive in Temple Terrace.

Buchanan performed on the Brandon Idol stage and in numerous community theater and Riverview High School theater productions. You can read more about him and his community theater involvement .

Buchanan leaves behind an infant daughter on whose behalf a memorial fund may be established. Temple Terrace Patch will povide the detials about the fund as they become available.

Detectives said he had been at the movies, at AMC The Regency 20, and was discovered in his vehicle with trauma to the upper body that was "not consistent with a traffic crash." Deputies responded to the scene, 2429 West Brandon Blvd., to investigate after a passerby had reported seeing the crashed vehicle.

Anyone who might have seen the victim or the victim's vehicle on the night of May 30, between 9:50 and 10:30 p.m., can call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
