Crime Report: Incidences Up From Last Week

Burglary Residence
Feb. 24, 2:25 p.m.
8400 block of Marlanas Place in the Country Way Townhomes
A neighbor heard an alarm sounding at the residence and then saw that the front door had been damaged, according to Community Service Officer Tracy Mishler. The neighbor then contacted police. Responding officers discovered that the front door had been “kicked in,” but nothing appeared to have been stolen from the townhome.

Feb. 25, overnight
9200 block of Overlook Drive
An unknown suspect entered a covered front carport of the apartment, cut the lock off a bicycle and took the bike, Mishler said. The bike is a men’s 26-inch blue-and-silver Schwinn with 18 speeds and one rear spoke missing.

Feb. 25, 2:30 a.m.
500 block of Bon Aire Avenue and 400 block of Belvedere Oval
Officers responded to a car alarm call for a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Belvedere Oval, Mishler said. Responding officers saw a man inside a second vehicle parked in front of home located in the 500 block of Bon Aire Drive. The person fled on foot and was tracked to the wooded area of Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club course by a K9. At that point, the K9 lost the trail. Nothing was stolen from either vehicle.

Police are searching for a Hispanic male between the age of 18 and 24 with a medium build and black hair, Mishler. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a red colored logo on the back of the shirt and black shorts.

Armed Robbery (Person)
Feb. 26, 7:22 p.m.
Grove Hill Road and Overlook Drive
A 27-year-old victim was walking on Overlook Drive when two men approached him on foot, Mishler said.

One man threatened the victim with a revolver and took $40 in 1922 silver dollar coins, Mishler said. The men people fled into the Brentwood Apartments.

A K9 tracked them to the rear of the complex where it appears they jumped a fence. The K9 lost the trail at that point.

Police are searching for two suspects described as black males between the ages of 15 and 18, Mishler said. One has a slender build and was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. The other has a medium build and was wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.

6000 block of Laketree Lane
A rock was used to break out the driver’s side front window of a 1995 Nissan 240Z. A notebook computer was taken, Mishler said.

Feb. 27, 8:20 a.m.
6109 E. 110th Ave.
Two men entered a rear screened in porch of the home while the victim was inside the home. Mishler said. The victim’s dog alerted, and the victim yelled at the dog to be quiet. The victim then heard what she believed to be the voice of a young male teenager say, “I think someone is in the home.” Apparently in the haste to flee, the suspects knocked over some patio furniture, Misher said.

The victim called her son who returned home at approximately 9 a.m., Mishler said. The son arrived near the home and saw two men running north on North 61st Street. This crime was not reported until 10:29 a.m.

A neighbor reported that he saw suspicious activity at approximately 10 a.m. the same day, Mishler said. He saw two people in the park located near North 62nd Street and East 113th Avenue. The people then walked west in the grassy area between the homes and Summit West Apartments. Once they got to the dead end of North 61st Street, they got into the rear seat of a gray four-door mid-sized sedan that had parked at the dead end of the street and was being driven by an unknown person.

Feb. 27, sometime between Feb. 25 and 27
8700 block of Morrison Oaks Court
A burglar broke a rear bedroom window to enter this home, Mishler said. Taken we three flat screen TVs and a desktop computer and monitor.

Petit Theft (Mail)
Feb. 29, between noon and 4 p.m.
6000 block of Soaring Avenue
The United States Postal Service confirmed that mail was delivered to the home but it was stolen, Mishler said. It is not known what type of mail was taken.

Mishler said he advises residents against placing bills or other important outgoing mail in their mailboxes with the red flag raised. If your outgoing mail is stolen and it contains personal information such as your bank check or Social Security Number, it can be used to steal your money.

“I suggest placing outgoing mail containing checks or other personal information straight into a U.S. mail box,” Mishler said. “We have one here at City Hall, in front of Florida College and in the parking lot of the Sweet Bay Store on North 56th Street, or you can go directly to the post office. If you must place outgoing mail inside the mailbox, do not raise the red flag; just leave the outgoing mail in the mail box.”

Feb. 29, between 2:45 and 3 p.m.
9800 block of Morris Glen Way
An unknown object was used to break a rear sliding glass door, Mishler said. The burglar was apparently scared off by a large dog inside the home and nothing was taken. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious vehicle in the area described as a champagne-colored Crown Victoria with dark tinted windows and unusual-style rims.
