UPDATE: Crash Shuts Down 56th Street

Northbound 56th Street is shut down at Fowler Avenue because of an accident involving a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Update (5:02 p.m.):

The driver of the Chevrolet S-10 has been identified as Taretha Wilson, 67, of Cocoa, according to a second update from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy is John Clark, 49, a 20-year sheriff’s office veteran.

Wilson was traveling southbound on 56th Street and was making a left turn into the parking lot of Golden Corral when she entered the path of Clark, who was traveling northbound on 56th Street, the update states.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic crash involving a citizen vehicle and a deputy vehicle at the intersection, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Northbound 56th Street is completely shut down at Fowler Avenue while the crash is being investigated, the report states.

Preliminary information suggests that a Chevrolet S-10 driven by a 67-year-old woman was traveling southbound on 56th Street and turned into the path of a deputy who was traveling northbound on 56th Street, a sheriff’s office update states. The deputy’s vehicle struck the Chevrolet on the passenger side, causing the Chevrolet to flip onto its roof.

The deputy was transported to Florida Hospital to be medically cleared and the woman was transported to Tampa General Hospital with a hand injury, according to the update.
