Chase Through Temple Terrace Nets Battery Suspect

A Tampa man fled from police after hitting a woman with his car on purpose, according to the Tampa Police Department.

A car chase Monday afternoon led Tampa Police officers through the streets of Tampa and Temple Terrace.

It started after police say they learned that the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala had intentionally hit a woman with his car.

Michael Donnell Mack, 29, of Orangeview Avenue, and Audrey S. Gilchrist, 24, of Longshoreman Court, were involved in an argument at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, according to the . Mack struck Gilchrist on the left side of her body with his car, police say. That part of the incident took place at 8414 N. Mulberry St. Gilchrist had a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

With the help of a police helicopter, officers were able to find Mack’s car. After Mack failed to stop for patrol cars, police say officers pursued him from the area of Yukon and 22nd streets through Temple Terrance on Bullard Parkway to U.S. 301, then to Hillsborough Avenue and ultimately to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Crenshaw Street. Mack got out of his car and fled on foot before being apprehended by police.

After the arrest, police say they found that Mack had 112 grams of marijuana and a large amount of cash. He also had several arrest warrants for charges including aggravated assault with a weapon, fleeing to elude and violation of probation.

He was charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude, driving while license revoked, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
