2 Suspects Identified in Village Oaks Murder

Temple Terrace Police have one suspect in custody. The other is at large.

The Temple Terrace Police Department has identified two suspects in the Sept. 4 murder of Jobree Platt at the Village Oaks Apartments, according to a City of Temple Terrace press release.

The first suspect, Edward Lavon Larry, 29, was arrested at 2 a.m. on Oct. 10, the release states. Larry, of Riverview, is charged with second-degree murder and accessory after the fact. He is being held at the Hillsborough County jail on $15,000 bond, according to arrest records.

Police are still searching for the second suspect, Gary Brown II, 29. Police have issued a warrant with charges of first-degree felony murder and two counts of attempted armed robbery, the release states.

“This is all the information we have at this time,” said Michael Dunn, the city’s public information officer.

Platt, 31, of Lutz, had been visiting a relative at the apartment complex, located at 8575 Montravail Circle, police originally said. The two had gone out overnight. As they returned to the complex at about 4:50 a.m., they encountered a shooter in the breezeway near the elevator. After a verbal confrontation ensued, the shooter pulled a handgun and fired, hitting and killing Platt.

The Temple Terrace Police Department is asking the public for help in locating Brown, the suspect still at large. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts can call police at 813-989-7110.
