How a Pillow Fight Cured the Blues

When your children are feeling down, what do you do to cheer them up?

BAM! Nope! I’m not referring to Emeril Lagasse’s cooking techniques.

BAM! BAM! POW! GOTCHA!

Ever have one of those days where everything bothers you, nothing seems to go right and you’re aggravated at the world? Well, I have found that these feelings occur not only in adults but also in children. Can’t blame anyone for the feeling; they just seem to happen. But what do you do to get out of the slump?

This week my son experienced one of these days. (Not fun for him or me.) So out of the blue I ran to the bedroom grabbed a pillow and BAM! Yes, I did! The look on his face was priceless! It was between the look of “HUH?” and “What
was that for?”

Then again….WHAM! He was like ….MOM!!!! (Yes, in the tone of STOP!) That’s when I reminded him that he has three pillows on his bed and that they would work great as ammunition. The smirk that followed was also priceless.

“Ding,” went the bell and round one began. The laughter that filled the house was deafening! By the time the referee (my husband) came into the rink (the bedroom), both opponents were exhausted (both from laughing and from pillow fighting).

Needless to say, the hand-shake and hug after the fight, along with the much better day that followed, was worth the time and hits I took.

So, my advice is take the time to enjoy the fight. A good ole PILLOW FIGHT! (Side note: Pillow Fights can be great on any day--not just bad days.)
