Voice of Temple Terrace at Temple Terrace Relay for Life

Are you an amateur alto, a karaoke crooner or a talented troubadour? You could have what it takes to become the first Voice of Temple Terrace.

The Voice of Temple Terrace, which will coincide with Relay on April 27 at Greco Middle School, will pit 12 singers against each other in a competition similar to NBC’s The Voice.

The contestants, who must be at least 12 years old, will sing live during Relay for event attendees and three judges: Mike Tozier representing Redroom Recorders; Ken Spivey representing Atomic Audio Recording; and an undetermined judge representing Morrisound Recording.

Contestants can sing any genre of music and perform with background tracks, accompany themselves on guitar or keyboards, or have their own accompanists. Contestants can be amateur or working professional singers, but they can’t be signed to record labels or in management contracts. No bands are allowed.

Each of the 12 contestants will get 90 seconds to sing and impress the judges, who will be facing the opposite direction. If a judge likes what he or she hears, that judge will turn to face the contestant. Each judge can choose up to four contestants, and then narrow their choices to two contestants.

The final six singers will each perform a song, and then be critiqued by the judges. Relay attendees will vote for their favorites by donating money to Relay on behalf of a contestant before and during the competition.

The top contestant will win a two-hour recording session at Morrisound Recording. Two others, who will be chosen by the judges based on talent, will each win two-hour recording sessions at Redroom Recorders and Atomic Audio Recording.
