Temple Terrace Shooter Prepares for Olympic Gold

Emil Milev will travel to London this summer to participate in the Olympic games.

Emil Milev, a Temple Terrace resident and sports shooter, will participate in the Summer Olympics in London this year.

He is one of two people representing the United States after  two weeks ago. He’ll compete in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol event. The games run July 27-Aug. 12.

This won’t be Milev’s first time at the Olympics. He won a silver medal at the 1996 games in Atlanta as a member of the Bulgarian Shooting Team. According to a TBO.com story, Milev first participated in the Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona for his native Bulgaria. He also participated in 2000 in Sydney and in 2004 in Athens.

The upcoming games will be his first time representing the U.S.

Last year, during Pan American shooting events Oct. 22 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He also participated in the Nov. 17 and talked to students at the USF Patel Partnership School.

According to the TBO.com story, Milev moved to Florida in 2004 to give his two children better opportunities.

“I think I have a pretty good chance for a medal,” he said in the TBO.com story of the summer games.
