Best of 2012: Bullets Found on Greco Bus

We're reviewing 2012 by highlighting our most memorable stories from each month of the year. In December, the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., had local schools on modified lockdown.

As 2012 comes to a close, Temple Terrace Patch is taking a look back at the year that was.

In December, the story on everyone’s mind was the , in which 26 people lost their lives.

In the week after the shooting, the Hillsborough County school district stepped up security, placing all schools on modified lockdown.

An eighth-grader riding on a bus to Greco Middle School discovered two bullets on the bus floor on Dec. 18 and turned them over to the bus driver. Students on the bus were held for questioning by school security and the Temple Terrace Police Department.

Parent Jennifer Moriarty commented on the Temple Terrace Patch Facebook page that the situation was scary.

“I had two children on the bus… I heard it on the radio before I heard from the school,” she said. “The children were picked up just after the bullets had been found. They need a process review. I think the police should have met the bus and searched it before finishing the route. Plus called parents before the incident hit the news. I am happy all the children were safe and thankful the children thought to report the bullets.”
