Just one week ago, Tampa was waving good-bye to the Republican National Convention. But while the RNC was in town, so were media outlets covering the event, including satirical late night talk show “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” The show shot part of one of its tongue-in-cheek segments at Busch Gardens where Indian correspondent Aasif Mandvi paid tribute to his Tampa roots by visiting his former amusement park boss. Sisters Jennifer and Kitty O’Neil (who are granddaughters of Chic Young, creator of the comic strip “Blondie and Dagwood”) grew up in Temple Terrace and credit their upbringing with helping them become crafting gurus. John Scalise and his wife were arrested in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, after a burglary spree took them from Florida to the Northeast. Scalise is wanted in connection with a $35,000 jewelry theft at University Square Mall in August. Scalise has been connected to the Aug. 18 burglary of China One, 2774 E. Fowler Ave.; the Aug. 19 burglary of Hibachi Buffet, 13612 Bruce B. Downs Blvd.; and the Aug. 20 burglary of Sears, 2266 University Square. Click the link above to see how he was caught.
