Young Coaches Bring Enthusiasm to Youth Volleyball League

Learn how youth volleyball is making a comeback with young new coaches.

Youth volleyball is back in Temple Terrace after a two-and-a-half year absence.
There’s a lot of excitement about the league’s return, particularly because four
of the league’s coaches are former players.

Jasmyn Perry, Ali Leist, Kayla Bennett, and Danielle Hange have all transitioned effortlessly from players to coaches. The enthusiasm they bring, and the way they connect with the children, has been exceptional, said Scott Andrews of the Temple Terrace Parks & Recreation Division.

These young women are setting a fine example for future generations, Andrews said. The coaches may only be a little older than those that they instruct, but their experience playing high school and AAU-level volleyball has made them invaluable to the league’s resurgence. Parents have commented about the enthusiasm the young coaches bring to the game, and how fun the environment has been for their children, Andrews said.

“This is a welcome ingredient in the world of sports, which often makes children grow up too fast,” he said.

The Parks & Recreation Division invites youngsters to come out and play
volleyball in Temple Terrace and be a part of the fun. The coed youth
volleyball leagues play on Wednesday evenings.

“Come and join an instructional environment where teenage coaches spend their free time teaching fundamentals, good character, and the value of right and wrong,” Andrews said. “Hopefully, the future volleyball coaches are playing on the court right now, following in the footsteps of Ali, Danielle, Jasmyn, and Kayla.”
