Spice Up Your Wardrobe Without Spending A Dime

Swap with Style will give women the chance to exchange their clothing items this June 25.

Are you a recessionista, fashion junky or simply looking to update your wardrobe and wanting to get rid of those clothes that just don’t fit anymore?

Clean and spice up your closet without spending a dime by joining the fashion event at Kingdom Worship Center (KWC), 1102 E. Fowler Ave., on June 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be hosted by KWC co-pastor Brenda Fruster, who is also the leader of Women of Rare Beauty, a monthly group that gives emotional, physical and spiritual assistance to women in the community.

“We hope to reach those women who are not able to afford to go out and purchase new items, or who lack the confidence to buy new clothes,” Fruster said.

Swap with Style is free and aims to give ladies and teens the opportunity to swap their like-new garments for other like-new garments brought by others, while being green, cheap and chic.

Green because women will recycle cloths, cheap because they will walk away with free duds and chic because participants will receive style advice from local wardrobe and fashion stylist and blogger Tamy Lugo, who is a featured contributor for tampabayfashion.com.

“I want to speak to women and help them with their self-esteem,” she said.

Lugo will share advice about the basics to start a wardrobe reinvention following a personal style, as well as tips on how to dress according to body figure.

She said that in order to have a smart, affordable and dressy wardrobe, women must: know their body type; always shop wisely, avoiding buying items they will never wear; and hold on to the simple and basic items, such as an elegant pair of black pants, a graceful white collar bottom down shirts, a classic black dress and a modish blazer.

Swap with Style attendees are encouraged to bring up to five items to the event, including any combination of tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and accessories.

Apparel must be in like-new condition and without any scratches, tears or stains.

Items that are not selected for swapping will be donated to Dress For Success of Tampa Bay, a non-profit organization that assists women in obtaining professional clothing, employment and self-sufficiency.

“We are excited about it because it will give the ladies and teens an opportunity to be more confident about their body image, it’s an economical way to freshen up their wardrobe, and it provides Dress For Success with an opportunity to replenish their inventory,” said event supporter and coordinator Ebony Grimsley.

Participants will also have the chance to win gift certificates donated by local sponsors, such as Fashion Fab Boutique, Fresh Threads Designer Consignment Boutique, JC’s Boutique, Sexy Bags & Shoes, Salon Alvarez, and TruModel

Fruster emphasized that women of all age groups, races and sizes are invited to the event and that this will be “a great opportunity to fellowship with other women.”
