Moffitt Named a Best Company by Working Mother Mag

Moffitt Cancer Center has received this distinction for the fourth year in a row.

Working Mother magazine has named  one of its 2011 Working Mother 100 Best Companies.

This is the fourth year in a row that Moffitt has been recognized, according to a press release issued by Moffitt.

“At Moffitt, our employees are our most valuable resource,” said Yvette Tremonti, executive vice president of Strategy and Business Development, in the release. “We are honored to be selected by Working Mother magazine for four years in a row as one of the top workplaces in the country. We are committed to providing the benefits and flexible, family-friendly programs that help our employees balance their personal and professional lives.”

All of the magazine’s winning companies offer flextime hours, telecommuting, paid maternity leave and employee assistance programs. Moffitt also offers backup child and elder care and diversity scholarships. Moffitt’s parental leave offers employees an additional four weeks of paid leave and job protection beyond the 12 weeks provided by the Family and Medical Leave Act, paying 100 percent of an employee’s salary.

Companies were selected for the 2011 Working Mother 100 Best Companies after filling out an application with more than 650 questions that surveyed the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversaw them, the release states. Seven areas were measured and scored for the 2011 initiative: work force profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture. For this year’s 100 Best, particular weight was given to benefits, flexibility and parental leave.

Carla Haskins, a Human Resources employee at Moffitt for the past 17 years, used the Elder-Care Plan, which provides certified nursing assistants and home health aids to care for elder family members in their homes. This allowed her to get care for her mother, who suffers with diabetes and dementia.

“Having the backup care let me come to work knowing that my mother was being well cared for,” Haskins said in the release. “The people they sent were just great with her.”

The 100 Best Companies, as well as national comparisons, are profiled in the October issue of Working Mother and at workingmother.com/bestcompanies.

The 2012 online application will be available in mid-December and due by early March. All companies that apply, including those that don’t make the Working Mother 100 Best Companies list, receive feedback showing how they compare with all other applicants.
