Country Club Offering Summer Memberships

Families who want to sample the country club life for the summer can take advantage of a membership special running through September.

The Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club is offering the deal for the third year that allows people to sample a golf membership for $59 a month or a social membership with access to the club’s other amenities for $39 a month.

The country club was established in 1922 and the par-72-course winds into a figure 8, originally designed so those watching the players could follow in automobiles.

The program is open to those who have not been a member for a year, said Debbie Bowman, membership director for the country club. That means those who took advantage of the plan last year have to wait but those who never tried it or were members two years ago can.

“If they’ve been away for a year, it’s OK,” she said.

The country club is offering the special to let people sample the offerings and to lure full-time members.

In its first year, the summer special drew 250 people and the country club had to stop new applications, Bowman said. Last year about 150 summer memberships were sold.

There are two options for the special.

The golf option is $59 a month and allows families to use the 18-hole course for $18 a round for those 17 and older. Children 16 and younger can play for free. Weekend rounds are available after 1 p.m. and guests are allowed at rates that vary depending on time and weekend or weekday play.

The social option is $39 a month and covers all events and amenities of the club including the swimming pool, bar, golf driving practice area and Jacuzzi. It also allows members to use the restaurant, lounge and outdoor bar as well as weekend breakfasts and Wednesday night buffets.

Social members are allowed to bring guests.

It also allows one round of golf a month for $18.

The membership is limited to direct members of the family, Bowman said.
