Bicycle Group Commends City for Bike-Friendly Signs

The South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers said they like local signs that encourage motorists to share the road.

The South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers, or SWFBUD, praised the City of Temple Terrace Friday for installing bike-friendly signs on 56th Street near Fowler Avenue.

The signs tell motorists that bikes “may use full lane,” and encourage them to “share the road.”

“Way to go city of Temple Terrrace,” the group posted on its blog.

According to the blog profile, is the director of SWFBUD, which is an alliance of 10 Tampa Bay area bike stories and three lawyers, including:

  • Bicycle Outfitters in Seminole
  • Carrollwood Bicycle Emporium
  • Chainwheel Drive in Clearwater and Palm Harbor
  • in Tampa
  • Oliver's Cycle Sports in New Tampa
  • Street Fit 360 in south Tampa
  • ABC Bicycles in St. Petersburg
  • The Trek Store of St. Petersburg
  • The Trek Bicycle Store Tampa Bay – Clearwater
  • Velo Champ in Seminole Heights and Tampa
  • Thomas Singletary

  • Mark Roman Law Group

The group’s goal is to “grow bicycling as a healthy lifestyle and as an effective mode of transportation.”

That’s also one of the city’s goals. According to the City of Temple Terrace Bicycle Map (included with this post), the city is committed to improving facilities for walking and biking. It states that the city has organized a signage and striping program to encourage bike riding within the community.
