DanceUSF Fall Dance Concert
This fall you won’t want to miss original works by our talented USF faculty - Andrew Carroll, Michael Foley, Paula Nunez, Andee Scott, Jeanne Travers - and an original work by Colleen Thomas restaged on our USF Dancers.
Andrew Carroll: Handel:1
A celebration of the music of George Frideric Handel and Ottorino Respighi
Jeanne Travers: Into Mergence
A choreographic work that reflects ways in which people merge and separate. This work premiered in Beijing, China at the end of October before coming to the USF stage.
Colleen Thomas: Du Coeur
A restaging of a work originally created on USF Dance in Paris students, beginning with an a cappella version of Jean Renoir’s “La Complainte de la Butte” and then quickly segueing into Christopher Lancaster’s driving contemporary score, 14 dancers kinesthetically relive their Paris experience dancing “from the heart”
Andee Scott: Drift
Birds in flight are the inspiration for Drift, the latest work from USF Faculty member Andee Scott. Drift evokes a meditation in movement, with constantly evolving patterns and formations.
Paula Nunez: Tocando el Vacio
A duet inspired by the music of Gabriel Faure. Dancers reach out and create a complex and intense portrayal of unconditional love and the resilience of the human spirit.
Michael Foley: Torch
Cuban-born singer Blanca Rosa Gil was one of the most popular Latin-American singers of the 1960’s and 1970’s, and is famous for her torchy, plaintive ballads. Prof Foley liked the contrast of highly-physical partnering and postmodern phrases against the 1960’s tropical beat of Ms. Gill’s tunes, and thus was born an homage to the Cuban torch song
