Teen Nearly Drowns at Recreation Complex
A 15-year-old boy is at Florida Hospital Tampa after being pulled from a Temple Terrace swimming pool Friday night.

A 15-year-old boy is hospitalized after a near-drowning at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex swimming pool Friday night.
According to a press release from the City of Temple Terrace, the teenager is at Florida Hospital Tampa. His identification and condition are not being released at this time, as the Temple Terrace Police Department is performing an investigation.
“Shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, the Temple Terrace Police Department received a call about a possible drowning at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex, 6610 Whiteway Drive,” the release states. “When police arrived, they found the youngster had been pulled from the facility’s swimming pool, and lifeguards were performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. It is unknown how long the youngster was under water.”
The facility was being rented by the Pepin Academy of Tampa for a private party, according to the release. An estimated 150 teachers, parents and kids were in attendance. Several lifeguards were on duty.

The article should have mentioned that, although lifeguards were on duty, the pool was closed due to weather. The party was moved into the gymnasium.

@John&Cherie Miller, They are probably just going by the press release. You think they are going to investigate it themselves before printing it? Oh, I also want to add. He is not a youngster. He is 15. Also, he wasn't supposed to be in the pool yet millions of teens everyday go in pools and are fine. Obviously there is a huge chunk missing from the story. Like, how he got in the pool. Why he couldn't swim. Was he conscious when he ended up in the pool? And most importantly, why was he in the pool in the first place? Also, here is something else that don't make sense. Lifeguards were on duty but the pool was closed. So then what were the lifeguards doing if they weren't sent home. I don't know but I wouldn't of printed this until I got these questions answered. If I did I would say that the investigation is ongoing and that the story is incomplete.

I want to thank Patch for reporting the facts as they existed at that time - our only reliable source of hyper-local news.
I think the thing we need to do is to pray for the child's recovery and also be thankful for the Temple Terrace Rec Center lifeguards. Whatever tragic events unfolded that night, we all pray for his recovery and for his family.

Hi Jamie. To be clear to all herein, no disrespect was meant and certainly it is a tragic event. We were at the Rec center and when we left the pool was closed due to the lightning and rain; "the party" had been moved to one of the gyms. My only point was to add some additional info. and not to place any blame. Certainly, we hope and do pray for a good recovery of the child. J.

News flash: the children were all in the pool, and allowed to be in the pool... It was a school function... This was a tragedy and my children, in attendance, are very concerned about their friend... Jesse and his family are in our prayers.

From friends of mine in attendance I understood it to be a pool party, the kids were in the pool as allowed and the lifeguards were on duty; also that the student did know how to swim. There is a lot unanswered here but the major point remains prayers go out to the family suffering right now during this tragic time. Last update I received was that the student was not expected to make it :-( I pray that is untrue.

Looks like the readers know more about the story then Patch does. Once again, lets actually get the facts before we report a story like this. Especially if it involves a child or teen.
