Symphony Coming to Local Church

Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is hosting the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra Saturday.

Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is inviting the community to its sanctuary Saturday at 7 p.m. when it hosts the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra.

The 45-piece orchestra, led by Douglas Diamond, is made up of music students at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN.

“This is the first time they have performed here,” said Vickie Sufka, Christ Our Redeemer’s parish administrator.

According to the Augsburg College website, the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra was formed to explore music from every style and period. In 2005, Diamond took over as director, and his goal was to mold the group into a collegiate symphonic ensemble. In recent years, the group has performed works including Beethoven’s 1st and 8th symphonies, Schubert’s 3rd, 5th, and 8th symphonies, and Dvorak’s 7th. The orchestra tours for a week every year.
