St. Catherine's Rector to be Installed Sunday

The Rev. Susan J. Latimer is the first female rector at the church.

The began as rector at in October, and on Jan. 8, she’ll be formally installed.

According to the church, the Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith, D.Min., Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida, will conduct The Celebration of New Ministry and Installation of a Rector for Latimer at St. Catherine’s, at 4 p.m.

Latimer is the first female priest called as rector to St. Catherine’s. She came from Charleston, WV, where she was rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She also has served churches in Maine and Georgia.

Latimer has a bachelor’s degree in Music from Yale University; a master’s degree in Music in Accompanying from the University of Southern California School of Music, Los Angeles; and a master’s degree, from Candler School of Theology from Emory University. She was ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta in 1992.

“I was drawn to St. Catherine’s by its emphasis on spirituality, theology, spiritual formation, liturgy and music,” Latimer said in a press release from St. Catherine’s, “and I share a passion for children, youth and family ministry.”

Latimer’s husband, John B. Roberts, is an analyst for the Department of Labor. The couple has two sons, Franklin, 17, and Hugh, 14.
