Relay Aims for ‘More Birthdays’
Organizers of the 2012 Temple Terrace Relay for Life handed out cupcakes at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Temple Terrace Relay for Life organizers Cheri Donohue and Jeannie Waterman brought cupcakes to the Temple Terrace City Council meeting Tuesday night, each treat with a candle stuck in the center.
After Mayor Joe Affronti proclaimed April 27 and 28 “Relay for Life Days” in Temple Terrace and encouraged citizens to participate in the event at Greco Middle School, Waterman handed out the confections from Emma’s Cakes to council members and those in the audience.
Donohue explained that they weren’t celebrating anyone in particular, rather the cupcakes represented the people that the Temple Terrace Relay is hoping to help through its efforts this year.
“We’re aiming for more birthdays for more people,” Donohue said.
According to the group’s website, 320 people representing 33 teams have raised $33,262 for the 2012 event so far. To get involved, visit Temple Terrace Relay for life online or call 813-230-3389.
