Jim Norman Withdraws From State Senate Race

The office of State Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, sent a withdrawal letter this morning according to published reports.

Reportedly faced with failing support from top GOPers in Tallahassee, state Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, is no longer seeking re-election in District 17.

The state Division of Elections received a withdrawal letter from Norman’s office this morning, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

A message left by Patch for Norman and his staff was not immediately returned.

According to the Tampa Tribune, the withdrawal comes on the same day that Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford endorsed Rep. John Legg, a Norman challenger.

Citing unnamed sources, the Tribune reported that Norman has been facing very low poll numbers and dwindling support from Tallahassee. The former county commissioner has faced a flood of scrutiny when he admitted that he failed to disclose financial information involving a $500,000 home purchased by his wife with funds from a political supporter.

Well, he'll be able to spend more time at that lakefront retreat (maybe he'll name it "redneck Vizcaya") now won't he?

Best news ever. Jim Norman is just a flat out crook and hopefully he will now not get that do nothing highly paid position with the Salvation Army back. If he does, no one with ever want to give them a dime. The only thing that still makes a lot of people sick is that he will be eligible for a state pension from his years of doing nothing but padding his pockets on the Hillsborough County Commission.
